At Nanziga Women Development Initiative (NAWODI), we believe that true change starts from the ground up. Established in 2018 by a passionate group of seven young women and men, NAWODI was born out of a shared vision to tackle the deep-rooted social and economic inequalities facing women and youth in Uganda. Our founders—coming from diverse backgrounds in teaching, farming, tailoring, hairdressing, small-scale business, and project planning—had personally experienced poverty, marginalization, unemployment, and exclusion. United by these challenges, they created a non-profit, non-political, and non-religious community-based organization (CBO) to amplify the voices of the underserved.
Operating in a dual-chapter model, NAWODI addresses urban and rural needs uniquely. Our Urban and Slum Chapter in Nabulagala, Rubaga Division North, focuses on youth unemployment, digital exclusion, and gender-based violence in low-income areas. Meanwhile, the Rural Chapter in Nanziga, Wakiso District, emphasizes agricultural development, climate adaptation, and empowering rural women and girls. Legally registered under Kampala (LUB/22/127) and Wakiso (WCBO/20/4739), we’ve grown from humble beginnings—holding trainings in temporary shelters—to a structured organization with strong governance, including an Annual General Meeting, a 7-member Executive Board, and a dedicated Secretariat.
Our vision is a socially, economically, and politically empowered community led by young women and men. Through our mission, we mobilize and skill women and girls in Rubaga Division and beyond, promoting transparency and accountability. Guided by core values like integrity, gender equality, and community ownership, NAWODI has evolved through partnerships with organizations like the Children Rights and Violence Prevention Fund (CRVPF), Theirworld UK, GAIA Earth Initiative, and Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA).
As we look back on our journey, we’re inspired by the transformation we’ve witnessed. From volunteer-led initiatives to impacting hundreds of lives, NAWODI stands as a beacon of hope. Join us in this movement—follow us on Facebook (facebook.com/NAWODIUG) or Twitter/X (twitter.com/NAWODI_UG)
