High rates of teenage pregnancy, gender-based violence (GBV), and limited reproductive health awareness continue to hinder women’s progress in Uganda. Over half of married women face GBV (UBOS, 2021), and stigma around sexual health persists. NAWODI’s programs in Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) and Ending GBV are dedicated to equipping adolescent girls and young women with knowledge, skills, and support for informed decisions.
In SRHR, we conduct community sensitization on family planning, menstrual hygiene, HIV/STI prevention, and reproductive rights. With GAIA Earth Initiative’s support, we’ve trained over 150 adolescent girls and teenage mothers, linking them to health services through collaborations with local centers. Peer-to-peer education and mentorship promote healthy choices and reduce stigma.
For GBV, our interventions include community dialogues on sexual violence, early marriage, and domestic abuse; rights awareness training; and engaging men as allies to challenge harmful norms. We provide counseling and psychosocial support for survivors, leading to increased reporting, stronger community commitment, and enhanced male participation in anti-violence initiatives.
These efforts have improved awareness, reduced stigma, and fostered household harmony. Targeting vulnerable groups like out-of-school youth and teenage mothers, we integrate gender equality across all programs. If you or someone you know needs support, reach us at +256 776 574 415.
